The colour we have found to be emerging as one of the most popular is no.12 in our colour chart. A lovely deep shade of charcoal, we named this ‘Westbury Black’.
Garden Rooms and orangeries have traditionally been painted light, bright colours, with whites, pastels and natural tones having been the mainstay in exterior paint colours for many years. These colours have helped blend the building into their surroundings, and help keep the room from overheating. However, now there is a new trend emerging.
Darker colours such as deep green and greys are being used more and more to paint external woodwork. However, the colour we have found to be emerging as one of the most popular is no.12 in our colour chart. A lovely deep shade of charcoal, we named this ‘Westbury Black’.
Grey was in fact one of the colours that appears in each of the palettes in our home trends report, which is now being seen in interior decor schemes throughout homes everywhere. Grey is a highly dynamic colour, enabling the transition between warm and cold palettes, meaning that it is a very practical for tying in different elements of a room; for example, warm walnut floors and furniture can be tied with cool yellows or blue highlights such as soft furnishings, thanks to the use of a transitional grey on the walls.
Whilst lighter greys are usually used inside the home, exterior walls and furniture can take bolder colours. This beautiful period vicarage in Buckinghamshire is one of our most recently completed projects where the customer chose the dark, bold colour ‘Westbury Black’ for the exterior of the extension. Far from being a contrast to the rest of the house, in fact Westbury Black is a dynamic colour; in the sunlight it takes a warm, lighter grey appearance, fading in to darker grey in shady environments. It is this adaptability which prevents it from being the harsh, cold colour that many believe it will be.
The paint we use has been developed to care for your Westbury extension and all our paint colours are hand chosen to bring out the best in the hand-crafted features of the timber frames. If you’re looking to refresh any exterior timber work, or see in spring with a fresh new look, then we can help you find the right shade for you.
